HotBox 130 Reactive

$(USD)483.00

The HotBox 130 is our hand-wired, point-to-point, top-of-the-range reactive power attenuator.

Four different reactive tone modes that don’t merely simulate tone but physically change the load your amp is interacting with.

Every part throughout is premium, from our custom wound inductor, to the genuine Arcol resistors, to high power Lorlin rotary switches, Neutrik jack sockets and heat-resistant wiring. No corners cut. No compromise. Just pure high-end design ethics throughout pursuing the hunt for supreme tone.

Note: 2 ohm units are made to order. Please allow 1 week for manufacturing.

The HotBox 130 is our top-of-the-range power-attenuator and enables you to drive your valve amp as hard as you like into those sweet overload conditions yet output just the perfect volume. Simply connect the 130 between your amplifier’s output and the speaker itself then turn your amp up to overload levels and the excess volume is absorbed leaving you with the true sound of your amp overloading but at a manageable volume. No needless electronics, no fans, no complexity, just pure, sweet tone.

At the heart of the HB130 is our custom oversized reactive inductor core. This inductors is expertly wound to our precise specifications by a specialist manufacturer who works with some very serious high-end audio names. We specify hugely overrated copper wire and a unique iron core material to eliminate harsh distortion and undesirable non-linearities. Unlike other units that use a thimble sized coil just to tick that ‘reactive’ box in a mere technical sense our units, are fundamentally structured around that huge copper beating heart.

Our ground-breaking four mode system let you tune the damping of the inductor, or bypass it entirely, to create four tonal reactive interactions and find your preferred sensitivity sweet spot. Unlike other units where you get what you’re given without choice, we believe you should be able to find your own unique vibe: Blue, Green and Cream each create more intense and warmer inductive saturation as they push more and more of your signal through the inductor. Resistive mode gives you a bright, open sound that’s useful when you need to cut through a mix or capture the full chime and clarity of your amp as if connected to an impossible, perfect speaker with no high-end loss.

In an amplifier point-to-point is nice to have, but in a power attenuator it’s the gold standard. Even the thickest PCB traces have resistance that sucks tone when heavily loaded with massive wattage, but our point-to-point design uses heavyweight solid core wire and heat-resistant flex wires internally to ensure that loss is minimised below hearing.

Under the extreme heat any attenuator produces PCBs will eventually flex and crack, but point-to-point absorbs the expansion without stress. We also use Cobalt infused solder. This meets strict RoHS requirements to eliminate toxic lead from the environment whilst strengthening the solder joint so they can absorb shock, vibration and heat far more effectively without cracking like conventional lead-free solders would. Our units are built to last.

And, of course, premium parts throughout. Genuine Arcol, Lorlin, Neutrik and more. No corners cut.

Tuneable inductive attenuation

I’m surprised this item isn’t more well known! Awesome product, very transparent and doesn’t colour the sound. Excellent customer service. Sean has been very good explaining any questions I’ve had and has got back to me with speed. Really looking forward to future products. Really love that there are four settings to add a bit more warmth in steps. Super robust and well built. Thanks Sean!

These are great attenuators. Much better than a master volume. Now I can pump my vintage amps into a bit of power amp overdrive without destroying my hearing. I do have to turn up the treble a lot to get brightness back but much better than resistive only attenuator. Well built too. I have a 4 Ohm unit and now I’m buying an 8 Ohm too.

Wow, I’ve been waiting years for this kind of product, and it doesn’t disappoint! I’ve always wanted a simple to use attenuator I can carry in my gig bag, sit on my amp and which can vary attenuation depending on venue…as well as providing the rock sound I get from my Marshall 1987…previously at excruciating volume! This meets my needs in abundance! At the moment my preference is the blue reactive option to cut through in a hard rock setting but I can see times I might switch to others…it’s great to have the options. I’m also very reassured by its reliability and interaction with the amp, as I had previously been a little concerned about the potential impact on my Marshall head unless I spent over a £1,000 on a device I wouldn’t want to take to gigs…that is until now! I get the strong impression Audiostorm are passionate about making high quality products and give the necessary care and attention to each one. Customer service was 100% too with great swift communication as well as a speedy despatch/receipt.
Well done all, you’ve made me happy!
